Peering out of my home office window last weekend into a very wintery looking
sky, I decided that it was time for a quick getaway to Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls. I realize that it's only the beginning
of the potentially bad weather, but when it comes to GWL, I really don't need to be talked into it. It is one of our favourite
places to visit when looking to get out of town for a day or two.
We
surprised the kids with packed bags. Flip flops, goggles and swimsuits all tucked away and off we went. No matter the time
of year, GWL is always decked out to celebrate any impending holiday or celebration.
As Christmas is just around the corner, you can only imagine how
beautifully they are set up. It was so impressive, that I had to go outside at night and take photos of the parking lot.
If I wasn't yet in the mood for Christmas, I certainly am now. The inside of the resort is a literal winter wonderland with
lights, snowflakes and a life size gingerbread house that you can actually dine inside.
The lodge is celebrating their 9th year with the gingerbread house, and
just in case you are wondering...yes, it's REAL. The staff at GWL begins baking up to 2 months in advance as the task of
constructing such a large structure is all in the planning. Other than the wooden structure, everything else is in fact edible.
They even have a real fireplace inside it. It can house 6 adults quite comfortably for a celebratory meal. There is even
a railroad running around the top of it. It's truly a sight to see for all those true Christmas enthusiasts. Over the holiday
season, the gingerbread house will play host to over 1500 guests.
I
was pleasantly surprised to find out that the cost for dining inside the house is only $20.00 on top of your meal cost. The
reservation fee is helping to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House and its 3 locations in Toronto, Hamilton and Southwestern
Ontario.
For those of you who really go all out at Christmas time, GWL has upped
the ante...they have specially decorated suites complete with trees, lights, garland, as well as Christmas bedding. A Winter
Wonderland Suite is yours for the asking, but remember space may be limited, so don't wait, book now for the upcoming festivities.
The indoor waterpark opens daily at 9 am and is a sure fire way to tucker out
your little ones while creating lasting memories for years to come. I don't recall how many times we have visited Great Wolf
Lodge, but we enjoy going back so much as the staff there are simply amazing. The fact that we can be there in about an hour
from the GTA is an added bonus.
Great Wolf Lodge offers great
value, as your price includes your suite, free parking, free Wi-Fi, poolside towel service as well as waterpark passes. The
waterpark offers two places to get food and drink so as not to miss out on any of the fun. Set up your wristband at the desk
and charge items directly to your credit card. As an added bonus, your waterpark passes are good from 1 pm on the day of
your arrival and can be used the day of departure right up until the park closes that evening. Two days of fun for the price
of one stay. The family is already asking when we can go back. I do believe that is what they call, mission accomplished!
As they say at the park, "Have a Great Wolf Day."
