It's that time of year again where we begin to plan out the weeks of summer
vacation. If your children are anything like mine, then you have to have a game plan to keep them stimulated and occupied
or you're in for a very long summer.
There are always the annual
treks to the cottage in Muskoka, but what about the weeks we are home? Summer camps are a great opportunity to have your
kids stay active and engaged.
There are many different types
of summer camps to choose from. They don't necessarily involve loading the kids onto a bus and sending them away for a week
to some far off location.
Places like Planet Kids Summer Camps offer that perfect opportunity for your kids to enjoy being outdoors
while still being home each night for dinner. Their 3 locations servicing the Oakville and Milton area offer a wide variety
of arts, sports, adventure, babysitting, as well as the new this year, Construct-it camp.
It teaches your kids how to design, cut, build a project using power and hand tools. Imagine
the satisfaction your child would get from being able to bring home something they built all on their own. Check out their
website, as there are too many different camps to list. I am sure there is a camp to satisfy every taste and desire.
We decided to give the summer camp experience to my two youngest girls,
are 13 and 11. After perusing their website, we decided on the Shoot-IT, Jump-IT Climb-IT camp, held at their Milton location
at Kelso Conservation Area.
They are very excited about the various
daily challenges in the great outdoors. One of the days they actually get bused over to AirRiderz Trampoline Park in Mississauga.
On Thursday, they will be playing Archery Tag in Burlington. Combine those cool things with low ropes and archery instruction
at Kelso, and I am sure both my girls will be thoroughly spent each night from pure exhaustion. There are other games and
activities, such as; swimming or water activities daily, field games, sports, special events and an end of week Major Special.
The pricing varies depending on which camp you choose for your child.
My favourite feature of the camp is that they supply pick-up and drop-off services (bus) at assigned locations in and around
your areas.
I look forward to the dinner conversations each night
to hear of that days endeavours. Summers as a child are all about the experiences and memories that will help your child
to develop and flourish. Memories that hopefully will last a lifetime...
