If you are reading this blog, chances are you want
to tone up, flatten your stomach, lose your baby weight or all the above, right? But with all that's going on in your life
right now, how do you find the time?! There is no one answer or easy solution to finding time in your day to exercise.
Thankfully, you don't need to devote 7
hours a week or even 30 mins a day to working out!
Some things only need the fraction of a second that it takes to make
a conscious decision.
Here
are 3 tips to help you in your journey to a tighter tummy:
1) Challenge yourself with full body exercises
Lets get the facts straight, spot reduction is the biggest myth in life. Period. (Besides believing
that the Tooth Fairy actually gave us money for our teeth!) 100's of crunches, sit ups and leg lifts are not the solution
to a flat tummy or firm legs. (If you have gotten the results you wanted from only doing these exercises, please give me a
call) In order to "tone up" you need to start burning more calories than you intake. The most economical way to
do this is to perform exercises that use your largest muscle groups(Glutes, Quads and Pecs. Read: butt, legs and chest) and
multiple muscles at the same time. This will ensure you boost your metabolism and burn maximum calories in minimal time.
Quick Fix: A simple circuit of Bodyweight Squats,
Bridges, Push ups and Planks are all you need to Jumpstart your fat burning potential. Perform each exercise for one minute
before moving on to the next. Repeat this sequence 3-5 times for a quick, effective workout that takes no more than 20 minutes.
2) Eat Real Food
Sure, you can see, touch, smell and taste potato chips. That
makes it real right? Yes and no. Real food refers to non-processed, nutrient-dense foods that were naturally available before
the advent of processing plants. If your "food" was made in a factory and has more ingredients than you can count
on one hand, you should probably reconsider it. This includes fried foods. Frying your food negates any nutritional value
that your food potentially had and instead leaves you with 3 day's worth of saturated fat in a single serving.
Quick Fix: Replace your Ranch or Thousand Island
with some Olive oil and vinegar. Substitute the fries for a side salad, roasted/mashed potatoes or vegetables. Avoid buying
junk foods at the grocery. If you don't have it in your house, you won't eat it.
3) Just have fun!
There is no greater driving force than the intrinsic motivation of actually doing something just because we
WANT to. No one made you run around as a kid, you did because you wanted to! No one can make you workout, you have to want
to. So why force yourself to do something you dislike? Working out doesn't have to be boring and repetitive or long and torturous,
playing with your kids, your dog or just chasing after them can be a workout!
Quick Fix: Try different things. Find out what you like and fit it into
your routine. Some people prefer group classes, others are more self-conscious and prefer to be more low-key with their workouts.
Your local gym or health club will offer a host of group classes, usually at no extra cost once you are a member. Another
option is to find an independently owned studio that offers group classes or one-on-one training. If you are still skeptical
about stepping into a gym or studio, many companies are now offering at-home training where a certified personal trainer comes
to your house and works around your schedule.
Once you start making small changes, it will become easier to keep making positive changes in your life. Start small, start
slow and don't expect results overnight. If you decide to make one positive change to your lifestyle each week and follow
through with it, by this time next year you would have made 52 positive changes to your life!
Bonus Tip:
If you don't already work out, find
a workout partner and/or consider hiring a coach or personal trainer.
